====== RustDesk ======

RustDesk (https://rustdesk.com/) is a FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) system designed to allow remote access to one or more machines without the need for VPN. Initially released in 2020, as of this writing (Sep 2025), it appears to be a viable, stable system that is easily set up by end users which some technical skills.

RustDesk comes in two flavors. A free version with limited functionality and support, and a reasonably prices paid version which includes add-ons such as a web based console, access control, and many other useful functions. We ([[https://dailydata.net|Daily Data]]) are currently testing the free version with one of our clients to see if it will meet their needs, specifically remote support. We are also looking at it for ourselves as an alternative to other remote desktop systems we are not comfortable of the security of.

We are testing free (FOSS) version in Fall of 2025, so most of the articles in this section will be mainly notes for **How Does This Work**, and may be technical. The paid version will not have these needs, we assume.
