IPMI Console

IPMI generally allows access to the console of a computer by showing the remotely, and allowing remote keyboard (and mouse) movement. This is generally done via some proprietary way, and in most of the machines I've seen, require purchase of an additional license.

Install ipmitool

ipmitool is a command line program designed to interface and manipulate ipmi enabled systems. Most major server manufacturers have the capability of this, though some functionality is not standardized.

All unix based operating systems I am aware of have ipmitool available for installation. For example, under Devuan (Debian), ipmitool can be installed using

IPMI

IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) is a strategy whereby computer hardware can provide a managements interface independent of operating system, cpu or bios (or uefi). See
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_Platform_Management_Interface>
for a full definition.

Basically, it allows you to turn on/off the system, make a connection via the network to the screen, keyboard and mouse, and monitor the actual hardware of the system.
